How much were the tickets? I'm thinking of saving up to go to MacWorld next year and make a holiday out of it.

Seems that Safari or network is about 10% what it used to be in speed. I recently add the MacUpdate Spring Promo package, and seems some of the programs are POC. Not sure if this is part of the problem because the slowdown happened beore that install I think.

It occurs to me that I see all kinds of threads about 'hackin' or upgrading a Mac that is 8 or more years old so that it can run with the latest software.

It's interesting because these machines are still working well enough to want to do this to.

How many threads do you see about PC users wishing to do the same?

    Food for thought.

Congrats on the purchase. I'm a PC->Mac convert/PB 17 inch owner myself. You mentioned you were looking for a carrying case for your 17"er, I highly recommend the Booq Powersleeve 17. May not be ideal for traveling long distance, but for day-to-day use it's simple, svelte, provides good protection, and has adequate space for a fair number of accessories. It even has a pouch in the back for putting papers that you may need. And it looks way cooler than a backpack...

Have you tried this really helpful website and scrolled down?

    http://www.apple.com/imac/specs.html

Hint: look for size and weight

Thanks for all the help everyone. But I am looking for an exact measurement from the table/desktop/base of stand to the bottom of the glass just where the gray aluminum meets the glass. I know its just under three inches from bottom of imac to desktop but dont know desktop to the glass.

There are a few too many exclamation marks. Also the lack of any other information besides "Boxed, warranty product!" is a bit shady.

If you don't know what it is, don't delete it.

Yes, I know that. That is why I am asking on here if any one knows what they are and if they are safe to delete....

They already do look alike. Honestly, most average people won't know the difference. I've already had people ask me if my new touch is an iPhone.

lol - i thought that might be the case, not nearly as interesting as if there'd been a fight though :)

wasn't many people there really - once they let everyone in, i think everyone who was queuing all fit inside the shop.
not sure how it went for contract people, but i got my PAYG one really quickly. left with the phone activated and in my pocket before 08:40 i recon

quite a few cameras and photographers though.

coming from someone who listens to music almost constantly, i have to disagree. i have a 20+ GB library and i make playlists based on the entire library. in other words they wouldn't fit on a nano. i like hearing a mix of my favorites along with new stuff.
All that music has gone to your head. :p

Both Ipods serve different needs, so I am not going to elaborate into it since it's been written to death. For the OP, the nano is a big leap forward from his shuffle and I see portability is especially important to him. Yeah, yeah, some will argue the regular iPod is portable, but that argument is pretty lame when it's taken on a treadmill.

Would that OP need more space in the future, sure, but that doesn't mean he'll need all the songs at his fingertips at once, unless he likes to have his pants drooped to his knees. 1000 songs will provide over 3 full days of music, thats 72 hours in geekspeak. And probably of that, 100-200 or so are songs he'll want to listen to more than once.

what are the main differences between the iphone and ipad versions? Figure I could just buy the iphone version and use it on the ipad with fullforce.

This is how I did it on my iBook about a year ago. However, you must be VERY careful with this method... it could screw up your system severely if not done correctly! For that reason, I recommend not doing this method if you're uncomfortable with the possible outcomes from the mistakes and waiting until someone posts an alternative way. However, if you ARE comfortable...

    Open up the Terminal.

    Type in the following:

    cd /
    sudo rm -rf "System Folder"

Exactly like that, quotes and everything. You will be prompted for a password after entering the last line.

This deletes everything, without question, from "System Folder" which is your Mac OS 9 folder. Making a slight mistake and entering rm -rf "System" will delete your entire OS X system folder! So once again, I advise being extremely careful with this method, and finding an alternative if you are uncomfortable with it.

It finally hit me the other day that my Quicksilver model is 4.5 years old. It's had a good life.

I've been using Aperture 3.0 since 3.0.1 came out. This is FAR from "beta" quality software. It's rock solid on my 250GB+ Aperture library.

Yes, some folks have had problems, but that's to be expected; this is software, and software will always have bugs. The bugs were neither egregious nor wide-spread (although to hear the kvetching you'd think that every Aperture user had their photo libraries replaced with goat se pics and emailed to their coworkers).

The much less vocal majority have been using Aperture 3 for a while now and are getting a heck of a lot of use out of it.

Another +1.....loving it and zero problems here.:D

why is a tab button needed. Command + T seems to be easier. Now a way to scroll through tabs would be nice.

You should read a few reviews. I would suggest heading towards the TRIM or CapsuleRebel.

As a Mac user just avoid file sharing sites and start using OpenDNS.com (http://www.opendns.com/). They have an instructional video (http://www.opendns.com/support/videos/basic) to show you how to use it. This way you can block know Trojan hosting sites from ever reaching you along with blocking any site you want without having to install any software on your network.

Oh, by the way OpenDNS is in London (http://blog.opendns.com/2006/12/31/live-from-london-its-opendns/) and in Amsterdam (http://blog.opendns.com/2009/08/31/opendns-amsterdam/), as well as other servers around the world.

Now, once iPhoto has opened/launched, will it operate any faster or smoother if iPhoto is installed on a ssd vs. if it was on a hdd?

Probably not. If your iPhoto library is anything like my iPhoto library -- it would eat up 1/2 of a 256 gig SSD. Same with my iTunes library. And my movies folder.

So your iPhoto library will have to be on the platter drive.

Same people who talk about their "tons of Aperture work with RAW files" -- well those files wont be fitting on a 256 gig SSD.

Did you read the documentation? Specifically the Animations section of the View Programming Guide for iOS (http://developer.apple.com/library/ios/#documentation/WindowsViews/Conceptual/ViewPG_iPhoneOS/Introduction/Introduction.html#//apple_ref/doc/uid/TP40009503) which is directly linked from the UIView class reference.
